Semiotics Preliminary Exercise 2( Ferdinand de Saussure's theory of Semiotics)

Today in media studies it was a light day but we were given a lesson on semiotics again but this time we learned about Saussure's Theory on semiotics. In the lesson we learned that Saussure seen semiotics as semiology. He believed that written and spoken language wasn't the only form of communication through humans, and that signifiers couldn't exist without the signified into a meaningful unit signifiers being the physical form and signified being the meaning gained.

To test or understand our understanding my teacher gave use an assignment where we made an organizer that we separated into 3 columns and 4 rows. In the 3 columns we wrote signs and symbols, signifiers(the physical forms), and signifier ( denotative and connotative). Under sign and symbols in my first of four rows I labeled it Costumes under that colors under that characters, facials expressions, and body language and finally under that the box was labeled props. In the other columns and rows drew and expressed what I felt needed to go in there based on the trailer shown in the beginning of the assignment (the hunger games).Until next blog :)
