Today in class we talked about lighting the purpose of lighting in film. Lighting in film is the direction, quality, source of color of light. Lighting is mainly used to create a visual mood and creates a sense of  meaning for the audience. Lighting direction in film is the angle at which a light hits the subject within the frame. Quality of lighting is in the softness of a shadow and how it behaves. Source of lighting in film is where the lighting is coming from whether it being natural lighting or edited lighting. 

    Today in class we created our storyboard to help connect our ideas of our film. A storyboard is an organizer plan of a narrative that is sketched. The purpose of creating a storyboard is to have a simple outline of the film in pictures. I have inserted an example that my group mates and I created to showcase a storyboard.

              So today in class we started on "Jigsaw notes" based on camera movement. Out of 35 camera movements my groupmates and I had to split them up and I got 10 of them. The 10 camera movements that I got were fade in, establishing shot, wipe, jumpshot, expansion of time, 180° rule, long take, J cut, graphic match, rhythm editing, and spatial editing. In my notes I listed what the camera movement was and three ways that the camera movement can be identified for example jumpshot is an ad rep transition used typically in a sequential clip, makes a subject appeared to jump from one spot to another without continuity, and occur when come cutting between two sections of footage shot from the same exact camera angle.  In the final part of lighting preliminary exercise we talked about light color. The purpose of light color in a film is to set the tone. In the image above it can be seen as though we explained the lighting in each image and the meanings that I conveyed in the color that was shown in the clips.

 In this part of the lighting preliminary exercise with the two films the fall out and the Irishman we looked at light source in the clips on the opening scene. Lighting source is the main source of light in a film. The purpose of lighting source is to create the atmosphere in the scene. In the image above it shows how in both of the opening scenes how light source was used in where they came from and what they convey within the scene.

 In this part of the assignment we were pointing out lighting direction that was showcased in both of the films so fall out and the Irish man and listed the tone that was conveyed and the type of lighting direction that was used in those clips. Flying direction is the angle at which light hits the subject with in a frame. The purpose of the direction of light is to create depth and texture upon the subject in the shot.

 In this part of our preliminary is assignment on lighting we talked about lighting quality in the two films the fall out and the Irish man. In the photo above it showcases all of the things that were pointed out that corresponded with light quality in each films shot. Fighting quality is the softness of shadows and how they behave in a film. The purpose of writing quality is to show how lighting interacts with the subject.

 In the last blog I talked about how my group mates and I chose two films which were The Fallout (2021 by Megan Park) and The Irishman (2019 by Steven Zaillian) and had to make a PowerPoint illustrating the different lighting elements like set up, color, direction, source, and quality. In this assignment me documented all of theses element of light that we seen by looking at the opening of these two films. In the image below it shows of light set up which is   guides the eye to a specific actor, prop, or part of a scene. The purpose of lighting set up is to create emotions within the film. In the image below it shows off a short summary of the film and the lighting set up that we’re shown in the two films openings.

 Heyyyyy blog today we are working on our power point relating to the two films that we choose to analyze that relate to our genre of our film. The two films that my group choose The Irishman written by Steven Zaillian and the other film that we choose is called The Fallout Megan Park. We were asked to look at the opening to the films and create a power point on it. In the power point we are defining lighting techniques. The way that my group mates and I split the work was so that each of us get two part of the assignment. One of my group mates got the general information about the films and lighting set up. while the other group mate got light source and light direction. In my part I took the responsibility to do light quality and light color. Collaborating with our film groups   Today in class we were asking to answer a few questions pertaining to the film that we are trying to make My group film is a drama, crime, and mystery. we choose the genre because of all the thing that we want to incorporate in our film. he two themes that we are going to be trying to accomplish would be revenge and betrayal within a friend group. in class we were told to analyze two films that relate to our genre which I will be mentioning and explaining in my next blog. 

Today in class we were asked to Annalise this short film. Within this analysis I mention the different camera movements, lighting, and conventions that were used in the film. The purpose of this assignment was to show my understanding of the different conventions of film. In the film it can seen that they used sound to create a serious, sad, and scary tone.One of the compositions that were used were depth of focus. In the film they used color to show the difference between the two sisters in the short film. 

       In this assignment we were instructed to take pictures around the school showing off the different camera composition that we learned. My group mate and I took control of taking the pictures and trying to make it resemble the camera composition that we were trying to recreate. In the picture below they illiterate some of the different composition that we wanted to use like rule of thirds, depth of field(shallow focus)                   Sallow focus (depth of field)-your plane of focus between a few inches and a few feet this helps to eliminate distracting details in the background.                  Rule of thirds-The picture is mentally divided into thirds horizontally and vertically this helps the audience to view the image with emphasis on certain places.  Blocking-leading lines are actually lines in shot this helps to lead the audience’s eyes to key elements in th...

    Hiii blog so today I was informed that we were placed in groups of 4 however I was not here so I did not have a group until the next class. Being as though this was a group project they each got two techniques and did research on them, so when I went the next class i was assigned one of these techniques out of the 8 the technique that I was assigned was depth of field in the image depths of film is defined and the purpose in media is stated accompanied by an example that is using this technique. We were also instructed to take a picture ourselves demonstrating deep focus depth of field.
