Mise -En- Scene Preliminary exercise 5

Elements of Mise En Scene  Heyyy so today in class we talked about Mise-En-Scene. And learned the importance of Mise-En-Scene and the time that it is used in a film. Mise en scene is  the essence of film making like the arrangement of scenery.  The many different element in Mise-En-Scene were spoken upon which include props, set design, costumes, makeup, color, lighting, blocking, framing, lenses, sound, frame rate,and music. there are 2 different types of mise en scene theatrical and naturalistic; naturalistic mise en scene is made to relate to the real world. while theatrical is made to relate to imagination worlds that cant actually be real. design in a film is the way that the scene looks, blocking relates to the movements of the actors, the way that the film maker arranging objects and framing is the composition these are all important because it allows the audience to be engaged in the film.

Genre and Iconography Preliminary Exercise

    Today in class we were assigned an individual task to show our understanding on genre and iconography. Iconography is image and symbols that is used in a film to portray a subjects movement or ideal. Genre is the category that the film is can be included in. In this project we were instructed to create a PowerPoint one a famous person outlining the movies that they were in and the different conventions that apply to the many characters that they played in.

 Symbolic codes close reading of Valerian official trailer #1 (2017) Symbolic codes is what is shown in a film to help find the deeper meaning of the film. Symbolic codes are used show a deeper meaning behind and actors actions and it helps the audience to find that meaning from the decoding of theses codes.  Producer may have actors using props or place them in setting to show the symbolic codes. my group for my film

 Today we got in our groups to finalize who we wanted to work with and what our production companies name would be. after many questionable names and we finally found on that was right for us which was "Kendly enterprises" we came up with this name by putting our names together Loudgee and Kendall. All we know at the moment is that we are planning on making our film a drama film. But we will let you guys know when we add anything else. Until text blog.

Semiotics Preliminary Exercise 3 ( Charles Peirce's Theory of Semiotics)

 Today in class we talked about Charles Peirce's theory on semeiotics this is when i figured out that their were many theory of semiotics. Price says that somatic‘s is the relationship between symbols I kind an index. He calls this triadic model of signs because of the three parts. We went through meanings of icon symbols ( The signifier resembles the signified), symbolic signs(no physical relationship between the signifier and the signified where the signified is conventional and cultural specific.),and indexical signs(signs where The signifier is caused by the signified). And my teacher mentioned symbols and how it could be represented by objects in people’s mindful connections. Semiotics Preliminary Exercise 2( Ferdinand de Saussure's theory of Semiotics)

 Today in media studies it was a light day but we were given a lesson on semiotics again but this time we learned about Saussure's Theory on semiotics. In the lesson we learned that Saussure seen semiotics as semiology. He believed that written and spoken language wasn't the only form of communication through humans, and that signifiers couldn't exist without the signified into a meaningful unit signifiers being the physical form and signified being the meaning gained.  To test or understand our understanding my teacher gave use an assignment where we made an organizer that we separated into 3 columns and 4 rows. In the 3 columns we wrote signs and symbols, signifiers(the physical forms), and signifier ( denotative and connotative). Under sign and symbols in my first of four rows I labeled it Costumes under that colors under that characters, facials expressions, and body language and finally under that the box was labeled props.    Back to the future   Today in class we analysed a trailer and talked about the things that stood out to us in the film The type of media being shown is a trailer. The title of the film is called Back to the future. The purpose of the text is to show a sneak peek of the upcoming movie. Three conventions that are in the film are  Narration, The different cuts to title screens and "coming November 22nd to theaters everywhere".  The main message that is being impied is to get people to watch the movie when it comes out in theaters. the genre that is be showcased is a  sci- fi because there is a mad scientist, flying cars, they mention 2050, and a time machine 

Semiotics Preliminary Exercises 1 (Roland Barthes' Theory of semiotics)

  Today in class we talked about Roland Barthes Theory on Semiotics. In the power point on Barthe that was spoken upon throughout the lesson today, my teacher mentioned that Bathes believes that signification was the process and the study of denotation and connotation. He referred to this process as the order of signification. What audience see and hear is denotative and what an audience feels and gain from media is connotative.
